New Delhi: The Government of India, through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), actively delivers skill, re-skill, and up-skill training under various schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) via Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). These initiatives aim to equip all sections of society with industry-relevant skills, thereby enabling Indian youth to become future-ready.

The PMKVY, launched in 2015, aims to provide skills to the youth through Short Term Training (STT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Following the success of PMKVY 1.0, which trained over 19 lakh candidates, the scheme was relaunched in October 2016 with the goal of training one crore youth by 2020. PMKVY 2.0 (2016-2020) trained 1.10 crore candidates. Building on this, PMKVY 3.0 commenced in January 2021 with the objective of training 8.00 lakh youth nationwide. Additionally, special programs like the Customized Crash Course Programme for COVID Warriors (CCCP for CW) and the Skill Hub Initiative (SHI) were launched under PMKVY 3.0 to address specific needs. PMKVY 3.0 successfully trained 7.37 lakh candidates, including 1.20 lakh under CCCP-CW and 1.8 lakh under SHI. Currently, PMKVY 4.0 is being rolled out across the country starting from the fiscal year 2022-2023.

PMKVY offers placement opportunities to STT-certified candidates, while RPL certifies existing skills. Over the last five years (2018-19 to 2022-23), 481 out of 2702 trained candidates under STT were reported to have been placed in Goa.
