New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India headquartered in Chhattisgarh, has taken an initiative to enhance the quality and affordability of healthcare services accessible to its employees. SECL has forged a groundbreaking partnership with HLL Lifecare Ltd, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, to introduce Amrit Pharmacy outlets within its hospital facilities.

This collaborative effort aims to inaugurate Amrit Pharmacy stores initially at SECL’s headquarters in Bilaspur and its Central Hospitals situated in operational zones such as Gevra, Sohagpur, and Chirimiri. These specialized pharmacies are poised to offer a comprehensive range of generic and life-saving branded medications, as well as implants and surgical consumables, all under one roof. Their strategic placement within SECL’s hospital premises is intended to cater not only to the healthcare needs of SECL employees but also to serve the broader community, encompassing both inpatients and outpatients.

By leveraging the Amrit Pharmacy model, SECL endeavors to facilitate access to essential medications at significantly subsidized rates, thereby alleviating the financial burden associated with healthcare expenses for its workforce and the public alike. This initiative not only underscores SECL’s commitment to employee welfare but also aligns with broader national healthcare objectives.

Furthermore, by streamlining the distribution of medications through Amrit Pharmacies, SECL anticipates a reduction in medical reimbursements, thereby optimizing the company’s medical expenditure while ensuring the provision of high-quality pharmaceuticals to patients.

The introduction of Amrit Pharmacies within SECL’s healthcare infrastructure not only represents a significant milestone in the coal industry but also exemplifies the organization’s proactive approach towards fostering accessible and affordable healthcare solutions.

Launched in 2015, the AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) scheme, pioneered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has rapidly expanded its footprint across various states and union territories, with over 300 Amrit pharmacies currently operational nationwide. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting equitable access to healthcare and essential medications for all segments of society.
