New Delhi: In a significant push towards inclusive urban development and housing for all, the Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, officially launched the Angikaar 2025 campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) in the national capital yesterday.

The launch event, held in New Delhi on September 4, 2025, was also attended by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, along with top officials from the Ministry including Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, and Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Housing for All.

Angikaar 2025 is positioned as a nationwide last-mile outreach campaign that aims to accelerate implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 through widespread awareness, targeted community mobilisation, and convergence with other flagship schemes of the Government of India. Over the next two months, the campaign will cover over 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the country, running from September 4 to October 31, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Manohar Lal emphasised that Angikaar 2025 would play a pivotal role in ensuring that urban families—especially vulnerable groups—can access and benefit from the government’s urban housing initiatives.

The campaign has several key objectives:
Expedite verification of applications under PMAY-U 2.0
Fast-track completion of sanctioned houses
Create awareness about the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH)
Facilitate the integration of schemes like the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
Prioritise housing for Special Focus Groups under PMAY-U 2.0

So far, over 120 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U, with 94.11 lakh completed and delivered. Angikaar 2025 aims to bridge the final implementation gap and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the ‘Housing for All’ mission. Under the revamped PMAY-U 2.0, launched in September 2024, the central government plans to support an additional 1 crore urban families, offering up to ₹2.5 lakh in financial assistance per household.

Following the campaign launch, Kuldip Narayan held a strategic meeting with State and UT officials to outline implementation plans and ensure seamless coordination.

Among the campaign’s key events will be the celebration of PMAY-U Awas Diwas on September 17, 2025, marking the first anniversary of PMAY-U 2.0. Additionally, the PM Awas Mela – Shehri, an anchor community event, will be organised at District Headquarters and major municipal levels in two phases: September 17–27 and October 16–31. These events will showcase the tangible impact of PMAY-U while driving community participation through cultural activities, awareness camps, and loan facilitation melas.

By blending policy outreach with people-centric engagement, Angikaar 2025 aims to set a new benchmark in urban housing delivery, ensuring that no citizen is left behind.
