New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal witnessed an outstanding growth in coal production during the month of November 2023, reaching a provisional figure of 84.53 million tonnes. This surpasses the corresponding month’s figures from the previous year, marking an impressive 11.03% increase.
Cumulatively, coal production for the fiscal year 2023-24 (up to November 2023) has experienced a substantial surge, touching a provisional total of 591.28 million tonnes. This growth of 12.73% is compared to the 524.53 million tonnes recorded during the same period in the fiscal year 2022-23.
The Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, shared this information in a written reply during today’s session in the Rajya Sabha. The existing coal import policy, under the Open General License (OGL), allows consumers to freely import coal from their chosen sources, adhering to contractual agreements and payment of applicable duties. The Ministry of Coal continues to focus on ensuring robust coal production within the country to meet demand.
