Konark: The Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the Odisha Government, successfully concluded the first day of the 3rd National Mining Ministers’ Conference today in Konark, Odisha. The event brought together Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi, 14 State Mining Ministers, senior officials, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to discuss the future of India’s mining sector.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasised India’s potential to become a global hub for critical minerals and announced the country’s first-ever offshore mineral auctions, aimed at enhancing self-reliance and reducing import dependence. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reiterated Odisha’s pivotal role in India’s mining landscape, highlighting the state’s commitment to sustainable mining and economic development.
Key initiatives launched at the conference included the Mining Tenement System (MTS), a digital platform to improve transparency and efficiency, and the fifth tranche of critical mineral block auctions, offering 15 blocks across eight states. The release of two booklets—Best Practices on Mine Closure and States’ Best Practices in Mining—further demonstrated the commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Secretary of Mines V.L. Kantha Rao highlighted the government’s focus on domestic production of critical minerals through the upcoming National Critical Mineral Mission, noting Odisha’s significant contribution to national mineral revenue.
The event also featured presentations on AI in mining, offshore exploration, and state-level auction best practices, fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration among stakeholders.
Day 2 will continue the momentum with sessions on sustainable development, safety advancements, and state presentations, providing a comprehensive roadmap for India’s mining sector.
