China has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing its citizens’ well-being, particularly in enhancing disaster prevention, relief capabilities, and response measures following floods and geological disasters that struck Beijing, Hebei Province, and other regions due to extreme rainfall in late July and early August.
President Xi Jinping personally toured the flood-affected areas in Beijing and Hebei Province last Friday, assessing the ongoing reconstruction efforts. With winter approaching in northern China, Xi emphasized the critical need to rectify safety vulnerabilities, fortify weaker aspects, and expedite the enhancement of flood prevention infrastructure and emergency management systems.
During a visit to a school acting as a temporary shelter in Mentougou, Beijing, Xi interacted with students, expressing joy in witnessing their return to school on schedule. He stressed the importance of augmenting children’s safety education to bolster their awareness.
As both the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Chinese President, Xi also met with the families of martyrs who lost their lives in service during the flood season, extending his condolences. Additionally, he engaged with grassroots Party members and officials actively involved in flood prevention and disaster relief efforts.
