A youth delegation from Jammu and Kashmir, participants in the ‘Watan ko Jano’ program, met with the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 25, 2023. Addressing them, the President explained the program’s aim: to broaden their understanding of India’s rich art, culture, diverse traditions, and ongoing development initiatives. Through their travels, she hoped they recognized that despite varying languages, attire, and customs, a unifying spirit binds us. This inherent unity, she emphasized, is our true strength and must be further nurtured.
President Murmu then highlighted the significant development strides Jammu and Kashmir has made since the abrogation of Article 370. She commended the collaborative efforts of the central government and local administration in driving progress for the people. The President lauded the extensive use of technology in governance, including over 1100 government services now offered online for public convenience, contributing to effective service delivery and transparency.
However, the President acknowledged that despite the positive developments, certain elements with vested interests continue to impede Kashmir’s progress. But she expressed optimism, stating that the government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure, technology, and education investments ensures a future where Jammu and Kashmir will become a beacon of progress within India.
Concluding her remarks, the President urged the young delegates to actively participate in the ongoing development efforts, opening doors to personal growth and success. She advised them to steer clear of drugs, negative influences, and harmful media. Reminding them of the equal opportunities offered by democracy, she encouraged them to embrace faith, dedication, and hard work as they forge their bright futures.
