Maruti Suzuki celebrates 40 years in India

Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Japan’s partnership in India celebrated 4o years of partnership in India. The event was marked by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and he laid the foundation stones of Suzuki group’s two new projects – the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing Facility at Hansalpur, Gujarat and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming vehicle manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.

The event was held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, on Sunday. Ambassador of Japan to India, H.E. Mr Satoshi Suzuki, Gujarat’s chief minister Bhupendra Patel, Maruti-Suzuki’s chairman RC Bhargava, Suzuki Motor’s president T Suzuki and CEO Osamu Suzuki were also present on the occasion. Modi’s Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and Haryana CM Manohar Lal also made an appearance through video conferencing.

Suzuki Motor Gujarat Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing Facility will be set up with around Rs 7,300 crore worth of investment to manufacture batteries for Electric Vehicles (EVs). The facility’s vehicle manufacturing capacity will be Rs 10 lakh vehicles annually. The first phase of the project will be set up with an investment of over Rs 11,000 crore.

During the event, Modi said: “The success of Maruti-Suzuki also signifies the strong India-Japan partnership. In the last eight years, these relations between our two countries have reached new heights. Today, from the bullet train in Gujarat-Maharashtra to the Rudraksh centre in Banaras in UP, many development projects are examples of India-Japan friendship.”
