Coal dispatch

Korba: South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of

India, has successfully achieved a significant milestone by dispatching 100 million tonnes (MT) of coal for the fiscal year 2023-24. This remarkable feat makes SECL the fastest Chhattisgarh-based company to achieve the 100 MT coal dispatch mark since its establishment. In comparison to the previous fiscal year when SECL dispatched approximately 85 million tonnes of coal during the same period, the company has demonstrated an impressive growth of 17.65% in the current financial year.

Of the total coal dispatch, more than 80% has been directed to the power sector, with approximately 81 million tonnes of coal supplied to power plants across the country. This achievement holds particular significance as it coincides with the upcoming festival season when power demand is expected to reach its peak.

Key contributors to this milestone include SECL’s mega projects located in

district, namely Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda. Gevra, the largest coal mine in the country, has made a substantial contribution of 30.3 MT, while Dipka and Kusmunda have contributed 19.1 MT and 25.1 MT of coal, respectively. Collectively, these three mega projects have accounted for over 74% of the total coal dispatch.

Additionally, SECL’s Korea Rewa coalfield, which houses several old and underground mines, has significantly increased its coal dispatch by 20% compared to the previous year.

SECL is a prominent coal-producing subsidiary of Coal India and, in the previous fiscal year, achieved a record coal production of 167 MT, accounting for approximately one-fourth of Coal India’s total coal production. In the current fiscal year, the company has set a production target of 197 MT, showcasing its commitment to continued growth and excellence in the coal industry.
