Stanford, California: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, Piyush Goyal, engaged with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and venture capitalists (VCs) of Indian origin during the third day of his US visit. The minister encouraged participants to share ideas to make India a premier investment destination globally. He shared his vision for the Indian startup ecosystem, urging entrepreneurs and VCs to contribute to the development of India’s young talent in critical technological areas such as Artificial Intelligence.

Later, Goyal participated in a roundtable discussion with prominent academicians at Stanford University. Representatives from various universities, including Stanford, UC Berkeley, Fresno State, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, and University of Silicon Andhra, discussed global issues and explored possibilities for collaboration, including the establishment of joint campuses with foreign institutions.

Goyal also attended the event “Charting New Horizons: CAs as Catalysts in the US-India Partnership,” hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI) San Francisco Chapter. During the interactive session, the minister emphasized the role of Chartered Accountants in enhancing collaboration between India and the US.

In subsequent one-to-one meetings, Goyal engaged with Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, and Neil Mohan, CEO of YouTube Inc. Discussions included the prospects of these companies in the Indian market, with Goyal expressing support for their expansion. The minister highlighted India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem and the vast opportunities for collaboration in the digital space.

To conclude the day’s engagements, Goyal participated in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) welcome reception hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. APEC, including India, consists of economies such as Australia, Canada, China, Japan, the United States, and others.
