Coimbatore: In a fireside chat during the 12th edition of ISHA INSIGHT, centered around the theme “The DNA of Success 2023” in Coimbatore, Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, reflected on India’s transformative journey in technology over the past 9 years.

Discussions during the event focused on India’s progression since 2014, where it has paved the way to transform lives, democracy, and governance through the integration of technology. As a former chip designer and successful entrepreneur, Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted India’s significant advancements since independence.

Reflecting on his experiences as a parliamentarian, he emphasized India’s emergence as a trusted global partner despite initial skepticism. The Minister expressed confidence that India would position itself alongside countries like Japan, the US, the UK, and Europe, shaping its future on the global stage.

Addressing concerns about the risks associated with technology, particularly deepfakes, Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to ensuring a safe and trusted internet for all digital citizens. He announced plans to roll out a standard operating procedure to address the dangers posed by deepfakes, emphasizing the need for digital processes in complaints and FIRs to enhance citizen protection and government involvement in addressing misinformation.

“I think we are at an inflection point. We are at the cusp of something that can be extremely beautiful, big, and inclusive if we allow this to continue. But we have to be careful; with everything tech, there is harm, there is criminality, there are bad actors. Using deepfakes is just tremendously easy today. AI can make a video look authentic. Therefore, this is a very important issue for us,” the Minister concluded.
