New Delhi: The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with the Indian Law Institute, celebrated Constitution Day on November 26, 2023, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The significant day marked the adoption of the Constitution by the people of India on the same date in 1949.
As part of the celebrations, a national-level transformative Colloquium featuring five technical sessions took place from 2 PM to 4 PM. Legal luminaries, policymakers, and academia deliberated upon the reformative needs of laws, focusing on the vision @2047.
The Colloquium aimed to explore the crucial link between constitutional values, global aspirations, and the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants.
The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address during the plenary session. Other dignitaries, including Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (I/C) for Law, Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chairperson Law Commission, Ld. Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, Justice Shri Arun Kumar Mishra, Chairperson NHRC, Justice Ms. Indira Banerjee, Former Judge Supreme Court of India, and Dr. Niten Chandra, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Government of India, also shared their insights.
Two books titled ‘A Guide to Alternative Dispute Resolution’ and ‘Perspectives on Constitution and Development’ were launched during the ceremony. Additionally, a debate on the theme ‘Limits to Liberty – Fundamental Rights vs Fundamental Duties’ was organized for students of National Law Universities on the eve of Constitution Day, with cash prizes of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000, and Rs. 20,000 for the first, second, and third prize winners, respectively.
