New Delhi: In a significant development, November 2023 witnessed the highest ever coal dispatch from both captive and commercial coal blocks, showcasing remarkable growth in production and dispatch.

Coal production from captive and commercial coal mines during November 2023 reached 11.94 million tonnes (MT), marking a substantial 37% increase compared to the 8.74 MT recorded in November 2022. Concurrently, coal dispatch from these mines in November 2023 totaled 12.92 MT, demonstrating a remarkable 55% growth compared to the previous year’s 8.36 MT. The average daily coal dispatch for November 2023 set a new record at 4.3 lakh tonnes per day.

Reflecting on the broader period from April to November 2023, both coal production and dispatch from captive and commercial coal blocks exhibited remarkable growth. The cumulative coal production from April 1, 2023, to November 30, 2023, stood at approximately 83.90 MT, indicating a year-on-year growth of 24%. Meanwhile, the total coal dispatch during this period reached 89.67 MT, reflecting a significant 31% increase compared to the corresponding period in FY 2022-23. Notably, the Non-Regulated Sector and Commercial coal mines witnessed the highest surge in coal production, registering growth rates of 101% and 98%, respectively.

The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving targeted coal production and dispatch. This accomplishment is a crucial step towards ensuring India’s energy security and driving economic growth.
