New Delhi: On 9th February, at India Gate, a national exhibition and program promoting environmentally friendly activities centered around LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) themes took place. Leena Nandan, Secretary of MoEF&CC, inaugurated the event in the presence of Nameeta Prasad, Joint Secretary of MoEF&CC, Ravi Singh, Secretary-General of WWF India, and other dignitaries. The event aimed at engaging school children and youth.

In her opening speech, Nandan stressed the importance of energizing youth and raising awareness about environmentally conscious behavior to support India’s focus on both economic development and ecological balance in the future.

The event commenced with a bicycle rally, promoting cycling as an eco-friendly and healthy mode of transportation for short commutes. Following this, school children and youth presented a lively cultural show, featuring street plays that encouraged the adoption of environmentally responsible behavior. An ‘eco-fashion show’ showcasing environmentally friendly clothing followed, highlighting the stylish yet sustainable nature of such attire.

The day concluded with LiFE-themed quizzes and word searches, with winners receiving prizes. The event underscored the role of youth in inspiring behavioral change toward an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

MoEF&CC’s Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building, and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) centers, along with businesses, showcased eco-friendly products at the exhibition, ranging from millet-based and forestry products to portable solar energy systems.

The event will continue on February 10th, featuring on-the-spot face painting and poster-making competitions, waste segregation workshops, Mission LiFE-themed quizzes, and more.

LiFE is an India-led global movement encouraging individual and community action to protect the environment. It promotes climate-friendly social norms, beliefs, and daily practices to foster sustainable lifestyles domestically and internationally, addressing climate change challenges.

LiFE themes include energy and water conservation, waste reduction, adoption of sustainable food systems and healthy lifestyles, and reduction of single-use plastic. LiFE actions offer multiple benefits, such as reducing air pollution, saving household costs, and enhancing well-being and health.

These actions are specific, measurable, and easily practiced by individuals, communities, and institutions, with minimal reliance on external factors, and they promote economic activity in the long term.
