New Delhi: In a major policy milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the rollout of the Four Labour Codes, calling the move one of the most sweeping and forward-looking labour reforms taken since Independence. The announcement, made on Friday evening, signals a decisive shift towards a more streamlined and worker-friendly labour framework across the country.

Speaking about the development, the Prime Minister said the new Codes will not only simplify compliance for employers but will also make workplaces safer, fairer and more accountable. He highlighted that the reforms have been designed to empower workers at all levels, while also giving businesses the confidence and clarity they need to operate smoothly.

According to the Prime Minister, the Four Labour Codes will lay the groundwork for universal social security—ensuring that every worker, regardless of sector, size of employer or type of employment, can access essential protections. He noted that the Codes guarantee minimum wages, ensure timely payment, and prioritise safe working conditions. Special emphasis has been placed on supporting women and young people, with the Codes expected to open up more opportunities and safeguard their rights more effectively.

Prime Minister Modi described the reforms as part of India’s broader push to build a future-ready economic ecosystem—one that champions workers’ rights while boosting overall growth. He said the implementation of the Codes will encourage job creation, strengthen productivity and accelerate India’s progress towards becoming a Viksit Bharat (developed nation).

In a series of posts on social media, the Prime Minister wrote, “Shramev Jayate!”, underscoring the government’s belief that the nation’s strength lies in the hands of its workforce. He reiterated that the Four Labour Codes are a major step towards achieving a system that is fair for workers and efficient for industries—setting the stage for stronger, more sustainable economic development in the years to come.
