New Delhi, October 5: The President of India has appointed three High Court Chief Justices as judges of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Law and Justice announced on Monday evening.

The new Supreme Court judges are:

  • Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. Her parent High Court is Allahabad.
  • Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. His parent High Court is also Allahabad.
  • Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. His parent High Court is Jharkhand.

The appointments were made “in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India”, the ministry said. The notification did not give a date for the judges to take oath.

Additional judge for Delhi High Court

In a separate notification on the same day, the President appointed Gurvinder Pal Singh, a judicial officer, as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court. The ministry said this appointment was made after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
