Medilytix Bureau : The Railways announced on Thursday that it had completed 1,353 track kilometres (TKM) of new lines, gauge conversions, and multi-tracking projects in the current fiscal year through September 21.
The transporter also stated that another 150 TKM will most likely be added in September.
“The combined figure is more than three times that of last year’s figures for the same period during the last financial year. Last year, 482 TKM were completed till September 30th, 2021. “During this financial year till date, 42 TKM of new line, 28 TKM of gauge conversion, and 1,283 TKM of multi-tracking have been completed,” the railways said in a statement.
However, during the last financial year (from September 2021 to September 2022), only four TKM of gauge conversion and four TKM of multi-tracking were achieved. It said: “No progress in the new lines was achieved during the corresponding period during the last financial year.” Last year, 482 TKM were completed till September 30th, 2021. “During this financial year till date, 42 TKM of new line, 28 TKM of gauge conversion, and 1,283 TKM of multi-tracking have been completed,” the railways said in a statement. The Railways said that out of the total capex of Rs 67,000 crore (Budget Estimate) allocated for new lines, doublings or gauge conversion, the actual expenses till August 2022 were Rs 20,075 crore.
It is to be noted that in New Line/Doubling/Gauge Conversion, 2,904 km were achieved against a target of 2,400 km during 2021-22, which was the highest ever commissioning (excluding DFC). “The target for the current year is 2,500 TKM,” it said.
