New Delhi: The India International Trade Fair unfolded its grandeur with the inauguration of the largest Geographical Indication (GI) Pavilion hosted by the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry at ITPO, Pragati Maidan from November 14 to 27, 2023.

The Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Parkash, inaugurated the GI Pavilion on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, welcoming visitors to witness a showcase of over 200 unique Geographical Indications (GIs) products. The Pavilion played host to more than 600 artisans from 28 States and Union Territories, presenting a diverse array of products ranging from Agriculture to Food to Handicrafts and Handloom.

The artisans, representing different tribes and women entrepreneurs, took center stage, presenting their crafts in what became a cultural exchange and business opportunity hub. The GI Pavilion highlighted the distinct characteristics and qualities attributed to the geographical origins of these products.

Live demonstrations and portrayals of traditional artworks, including Gond Painting, Warli Painting, Pithora Painting, Shamphee Lanphee, Sandur Lambani Embroidery, Odisha Pattachitra, and more, were conducted by Padma Shri and National awardees. This provided visitors with a firsthand experience of India’s rich traditional and cultural heritage.

In addition to showcasing traditional crafts, the Pavilion featured a Kids Play Zone, offering young participants a blend of physical and digital activities to explore. The GI Pavilion, a convergence of culture and commerce, celebrated the vibrancy and diversity of India’s Geographical Indications.
