New Delhi: The Ministry of Women and Child Development marked the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at addressing gender imbalances and empowering the girl child. The event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi  today, featured distinguished dignitaries, including the Union Ministers of Health, Women and Child Development, and the Minister of State for Women and Child Development.

The programme showcased a decade of progress under BBBP, reaffirming the Government of India’s vision for a developed and gender-equal Bharat by 2047. The Union Health Minister highlighted improvements in child sex ratio, institutional deliveries, and access to healthcare services for girls. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing every girl with opportunities for a brighter future.
The Union Women and Child Development Minister emphasised the transformative impact of BBBP, noting its evolution into a nationwide movement. The Minister of State for Women and Child Development underlined the cultural shift brought by the scheme, fostering a society that values education, health, and opportunities for girls.

 

Key initiatives were launched, including the Compendium of Best Practices, the Mission Vatsalya Portal, the Mission Shakti Portal, and the Mission Shakti Mobile App, further strengthening efforts to empower women and children.
Over the decade, the scheme has achieved significant milestones: the National Sex Ratio at Birth improved from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24, the gross enrolment ratio of girls at secondary level rose from 75.51% to 78%, and institutional deliveries increased from 61% to 97.3%.

The celebrations, running from January 22 to March 8, 2025, will culminate on International Women’s Day, with nationwide activities, campaigns, and sustainability drives. The Ministry remains committed to fostering gender equality and creating a brighter future for girls across the nation.
