New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, today, and toured the exhibition. Welcoming attendees, he highlighted Bharat Tex’s growth as a major global textile event, showcasing India’s heritage and the vision of a developed nation. He noted that this edition includes the entire textile value chain, featuring accessories, garments, machinery, chemicals, and dyes.
The Prime Minister emphasised Bharat Tex as a key platform for global engagement, with participation from over 120 countries. This provides exhibitors with international exposure, facilitating business expansion. He recalled his visit to the stalls, where entrepreneurs shared success stories from last year’s event, gaining significant buyers and expanding operations. The event plays a crucial role in boosting investment, exports, and growth in the textile sector. He urged the banking sector to support textile entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses, thereby creating employment opportunities.
Modi highlighted India’s diverse traditional textiles, from Lucknowi chikankari and Rajasthani bandhani to Banarasi silk, Kanjivaram, and pashmina. He stressed the importance of promoting the textile industry’s diversity and uniqueness. Citing a 7% rise in textile and apparel exports, he noted that India is now the world’s sixth-largest exporter, with a goal to triple exports to ₹9 lakh crore by 2030.
The Prime Minister attributed textile sector growth to consistent policies, with foreign investment doubling in the past decade. He pointed out the sector’s role as a major employer, contributing 11% to India’s manufacturing industry. He discussed the Mission for Cotton Productivity to enhance cotton supply, along with policy decisions to support MSMEs, which make up 80% of the sector.
Addressing workforce skills, Modi highlighted the role of National Centres of Excellence and the Samarth scheme in developing industry-relevant expertise. He stressed the importance of preserving handloom authenticity and supporting artisans. Over 2,400 marketing events have promoted handlooms in the last decade, with the India-handmade e-commerce platform providing online sales opportunities.
Modi also discussed the impact of sustainability on fashion and textiles, citing the growing importance of recycling and waste reduction. He announced government initiatives promoting upcycling and textile waste collection, highlighting India’s potential in the global recycled textiles market.
Bharat Tex 2025 is set to be a landmark event, attracting over 5,000 exhibitors, 6,000 international buyers, and leading global textile bodies. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and growth, it aims to strengthen India’s position as a global textile leader.
