New Delhi: On 20th February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, along with launching and laying the foundation stone for various other development projects in the region. He interacted with beneficiaries of Central schemes during the event, which was attended by Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions of India, and Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament from Jammu.

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted significant advancements in the healthcare sector in Jammu & Kashmir over the past decade, with the number of Medical Colleges increasing from 4 to 12 and MBBS seats doubling from 500 to 1300. He emphasized the growth of PG medical seats, which were non-existent before 2014 and now stand at 650 in the Union Territory. Additionally, he mentioned the upcoming establishment of 35 new nursing and paramedic colleges in the region.

Regarding the inauguration of AIIMS Jammu, the Prime Minister underscored the Union Government’s achievement in establishing 15 new AIIMS in the last decade, including two in J&K alone. He emphasized that the commissioning of AIIMS Jammu will provide specialized medical treatment locally, saving time and resources for the people of Jammu.

The Prime Minister reiterated his vision of India becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047 and emphasized the importance of a developed Jammu & Kashmir in achieving this goal. He commended the Union Government’s commitment to the swift completion of AIIMS Jammu, from laying the foundation stone to inauguration in just 5 years.

Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to the Union Government for fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly in terms of development and benefits from central schemes. He highlighted the significant improvements in various sectors in the region over the last five years, attributing them to effective leadership and proactive pursuit of development projects under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing infrastructure development in the country, especially in J&K. He credited the Hon’ble Prime Minister for driving ambitious development projects to fruition, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every corner of the region.
