New Delhi, October 13: The Ministry of Ayush has issued Standard Treatment Guidelines for managing skin disorders under Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy, with Yoga included.

The guidelines cover common conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, vitiligo, urticaria and dermatophytosis (fungal skin infection). For each system they give recommendations on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation.

They were prepared by the Ayush Vertical of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and released on the 11th Ayurveda Day.

Tested with doctors in Delhi

The guidelines were drawn up with the Ayush research councils, academic experts in each system, Yoga experts and specialists in modern medicine. The process included expert consultations, a review of classical texts and an assessment of current scientific evidence.

The protocols were tested in the field with medical officers in primary and secondary healthcare through the Directorate of Ayush, Government of NCT of Delhi. Their feedback on how usable the guidelines were in practice was built into the final documents.

What officials said

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the guidelines would deepen the integration of Ayush systems with the national healthcare framework and support safe and standardised care.

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said they would bring more uniformity to clinical practice while keeping the core principles of each system. Director General of Health Services Dr Loveneesh G. Krishna said they would help Ayush practitioners deliver safe, patient-centred care.

The ministry expects the documents to be used by practitioners, teachers, researchers and policymakers.
