NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh has said nanomedicine could play a major role in the next generation of precision medicine and personalised healthcare, particularly through more targeted approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
Speaking on advances in the field, Singh highlighted the potential of nanoscale technologies to improve the way medicines are delivered and to support treatments tailored more closely to individual patients.
Targeted delivery and precision treatment
Nanomedicine applies materials and technologies at an extremely small scale to healthcare. Its potential applications include targeted drug delivery, diagnostics and therapeutic systems designed to act more precisely at the site of disease.
The government said such approaches could help reduce the exposure of healthy tissue to medicines while improving the effectiveness of treatment. The field is also closely linked with the wider shift towards precision and personalised medicine.
Research-to-clinic focus
Singh stressed the importance of translating scientific research into healthcare applications that can reach patients. He also underlined the need for collaboration across scientific institutions, clinicians and technology developers.
The government is positioning advanced biomedical research, including nanotechnology, as part of India’s broader science and innovation ecosystem. The minister said the next phase would require research outcomes to move beyond laboratories towards practical and clinically relevant solutions.
