Jaipur: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, stated that India’s renewable energy sector is a global leader, well-positioned to surpass the target of 500 GW by 2030. Addressing the Regional Review Meeting on Renewable Energy in Jaipur today, he highlighted renewable energy’s crucial role in meeting India’s doubling power demand by 2032.
The meeting reviewed renewable energy progress in northern states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Joshi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the COP26 Panchamrit initiative, green hydrogen development, and recent investments worth ₹32 lakh crore in the sector. Rajasthan received an additional 5,000 MW under the PM Kusum Scheme and recently inaugurated four solar power projects in Jaisalmer, adding 1,200 MW capacity.

Key regional updates included Rajasthan’s leadership in solar and battery energy storage systems, with a target of 125 GW by 2030. Himachal Pradesh is set to achieve 100% non-fossil fuel energy by 2026. Jammu & Kashmir prioritised solar, small hydro, and wind energy, with plans for regional workshops to address local challenges.
The meeting emphasised collaboration among states, fostering innovation in green hydrogen, battery storage, and sustainable energy technologies, ensuring India remains at the forefront of the global energy transition.
