Maharashtra will get as many as 50 inter-city electric buses by 1st of June to be deployed by Greencell Mobility, marking the commemoration day of Maharashtra Regional State Transport Corporation(MSRTC). The buses will be plying between Pune and Ahmednagar, covering cities as Kolhapur, Nasik, Aurangabad, Solapur.

Named as ‘Shivai’, the electric buses will be added in the state in stages, wherein about 10 buses will be introduced to ply between Pune and Ahmednagar, about 12 buses running between Pune-Kolhapur route, 18 buses to operate between Pune and Nashik and 10 buses covering Pune-Solapur segment.

The electric buses will be having air-conditioned cabins and powered with Lithium-Ion Battery, which takes about 90 to 120 minutes to get fully charged. In the process, as much as much as 3743 tons of CO2 emission can be averted by these buses.

Ashok Agarwal, MD & CEO, Greencell Mobility remarked, that main idea to promote e-buses is to promote green-sustainable public transport in the state.
