In a bid to overcome the challenge of faulty engineering and design of roads leading to major road accidents in the state, the Transport Department of Odisha has adopted to train engineers of NHAI and Work Department on road safety. In this regard, Transport Commissioner of Odisha, Arun Bothra submitted a proposal to train engineers of the aforementioned government departments, responsible for designing and engineering of roads on road safety, which has received a nod for implementation by Secretary, Commerce and Transport, Government of Odisha, Bishnupada Sethi.

The proposal mentioned about engagement of reputed organization having expertise in the field of road-safety and engineering for this purpose. The sanction from Sethi’s office urged the Transport Commissioner to chalk out a detailed plan of the proposed training program, expenditure and number of person’s to be trained in the specific departments.

The major move by the Transport Department of Kerala is advanced keeping in mind of the significant share of road-accident fatalities caused during the year 2021 in Odisha. As much as 30 per cent of 5081 accidental deaths, are caused due to faulty engineering of roads, including lack of signage.
