The Assam cabinet endeared Tripura Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, aiming to convert over 42000 two-wheeler, 10000 three wheelers and 7500 four-wheelers and 500 buses to electric mode by 2027.

In an effort to curtail on the environmental impact caused by vehicles and portray Tripura as an eco-friendly tourist destination, the state government has declared to adopt the Tripura Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, promoting electric vehicles.

The state’s Information and Cultural Affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury asserted that the state government is committed to increase electric mobility in a bid to curtail air pollution and would be helpful in promoting eco-friendly tourism. “There are 60,000 vehicles in Tripura. We have taken an in-principal decision to convert 10 per cent of these 60,000 vehicles in the next five years,” the minister said.

Already implemented in 14 states of country, Tripura would become the 15th state to implement EV policy in the state and third in the Northeast region after Assam and Meghalaya.
