NEW DELHI: Eligible persons with disabilities will no longer need to renew their exempted FASTags every year under revised national highway toll rules taking effect from 2 October 2026.

The new framework links the validity of an exempted FASTag to the percentage of disability recorded in a valid disability certificate, Unique Disability Identity (UDID) card or other applicable record.

Three- and five-year validity

FASTags issued to people with 70% to 100% disability will remain valid for five years. Those issued to people with 40% to less than 70% disability will be valid for three years.

After the applicable period, the exempted FASTag can be renewed subject to continued eligibility and compliance with the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008.

The revised provisions apply to vehicles specially designed and constructed for people with physical disabilities as well as vehicles registered under the ownership type “Divyangjan”.

Annual renewal requirement removed

Until now, eligible Divyangjan users were required to renew exempted FASTags annually. The longer validity periods are intended to reduce repeated paperwork and bring greater uniformity to the issuance and renewal process.

The change is also expected to make the tolling system easier to use for eligible beneficiaries while retaining the existing eligibility checks for toll exemption.
